“Gay Pride” vs Christian Events

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Dear Friends,

Please pray for the homosexual community and our politicians who find it so necessary to participate in “gay” events while at the same time avoiding and chastising the church in Santa Fe. A “gay pride” event took place in Santa Fe this weekend at the new train station. The response in the press and by politicians was markedly different from REVIVE Santa Fe, a Christian revival in Santa Fe last fall. Had the “Gay Pride” event this weekend received same response as the Christian event things would have been very different.

Instead of riding happily in the event as he did this weekend, Santa Fe Mayor David Coss would have refused to participate, canceling at the last minute with a press release chastising the homosexuals for not being “inclusive,” stating he wished to be mayor “of all the people.” In making these claims at REVIVE Santa fe and refusing to address this major Christian event, Mayor Coss had to disregarded the fact that the majority of Santa Feans (65%) profess to be Christian while a small percentage (less than 2%) are in homosexual households.

Secondly, the Lt. Governor and Lt Governor candidates would not have shown up seeking Christian voters. (They can, apparently, disregard any Christian worldview.) Current Lt. Governor and gubernatorial candidate Diane Dennish was parade marshal in last year’s event and Jerry Ortiz y Pino, a current gubernatorial candidate, was more than proud of campaigning on site. The local press would then point out that there were no Democratic candidates at the Christian event.

Thirdly, the Christian press would be up in arms demanding that our new Santa Fe train station be “smudged” to “cleanse it from those people.” Words like “bigot,” “Christianphobe,” and “liberal left wingers” would be bantered about in the New Mexico newspapers, tabloid press and in letters-to-the-editor.

None of this will happened, of course, but one can only hope that the promised change will result in equality when it comes to the Christian community’s fair participation in the press and in the public square.

God bless our community.
